It can’t get much better than being asked to illustrate a series of stamps that will appear in perpetuity, so when John Burgoyne was approached to illustrate an apple for a postage stamp, it was a no-brainer to accept the assignment.
Approached by PhotoAssist in Bethesda, Maryland, he was asked to illustrate a Baldwin Apple in the style of his Cook’s illustrated Magazine back covers. After seeing the first illustration, the United States Postal Service asked for three more to create a series of four! When you’re good, you’re good, right? So he delivered 3 more exceptional illustrations as shown in the image below. The apples were illustrated in his trademark pen and ink style with watercolor, and were released this last spring.
